Background and objectives: Regarding rapid increase in the prevalence of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in Iran and its complications, the necessity of hemodialysis in these patients is increasing day by day; especially if they suffer from resistant hypertension to medication. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of hemodialysis duration as increasing intervention of 3 hours compared to the routine treatment intervention program in hemodialysis patients with resistant hypertension to medication in Imam Hussein Hospital during 1393 and 1394.
Materials and methods:
This clinical study was conducted on ESRD patients with resistant hypertension to medication who referred to the hemodialysis ward of Imam Hussein (PBUH) Hospital of Shahrud during 1393 and 1394 and lasted for 4-5 months. After getting the consent of all the patients and recording demographic data such as their age, sex and educational level, they have randomly been separated randomly in 2 groups. Intervention was performed on each one of them periodically, meanwhile; their before and after hypertension, HB, ca, phosphorus, URR were measured.
All the analyses were conducted using the SPSS software (version 16) and T-Test; in this study, p is ˂0/05.
Results:
During the study period, 33 ESRD patients referred to the hemodialysis ward of Imam Hussein (PBUH) Hospital of Shahrud during 1393 and 1394 and after performing statistical analysis, any meaningful relationship between increase of hemodialysis duration and any hypertension variables such as HB, CA, Phosphorus and URR could not be found.
Discussion and conclusion:
The results of this study showed that increasing hemodialysis duration has no effect on controlling resistant hypertension to medication in ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis, and is hence not recommended.
