The universal exposition is a big international event produced for the first time in London in 1851, thanks to an idea of Prince Alberto. From the first edition, the Expo had increased his celebrity and every five years is presented in a different nation. Decide if a nation should host the Expo is not an easy choice and see how other nations have overcome this could help. German and China have both hosted the Expo, respectively in 2000 and 2010 with different results. The one in Shanghai was one of the most expensive edition but it had also at the end of the event a surplus and a big return in term of tourism, buildings, improvement in public transports, in addition to the prestige that have received. Furthermore it was visited by more than 73 million of people, more or less the number expected. On the other hand, the German's edition in Hannover was not a big success: the event was very opposed by almost half population and was visited only by 18 millions people, instead of the expected 40 millions. The two cases show rewards and risks of hosting an event as important as the Universal Exposition: lodge the next edition in our country and specifically in Milan could mean a return in term of financial increase thanks to tourism but it imply a big budget for new venues, increasing of public transports and security, ameliorating of the city in general. However these are expenses that could have a long-term benefit for the city and they could bring a general wellness for the inhabitants. Hosting the Universal Exposition can be a great chance for our country, following the right ideas and having a clear goal it would be an excellent opportunity for us to grow and showcase our history, cities, culture and people.
